Mahasamadhi Story

I just read a wonderful story yesterday…

A man in Latin America who was reading the Autobiography of a Yogi for the first time, and this was right at the time when Paramhansa Yogananda left his body.

The man heard on the radio that Master passed away and he slammed the book down and said to himself that he did not want a dead Guru. Then Paramhansa Yogananda, who had just recently left his body…..came walking into his room and said to him “Am I dead?” and then disappeared.

At first, the man reacted by checking his door and windows, and they were locked, so he could not understand how anyone was able to get in…but then understood the great blessing he had received.

Mahasamadhi of Paramhansa Yogananda

On March 7, 1952, Yogananda left his body in a conscious state of oneness with God — mahasamadhi.

That evening is described by Swami Kriyananda in Chapter 38 of The New Path.

You can also read a poem about his passing, written years earlier by Yogananda, entitled “After This.”
