Ben is doing phenomenally well!  Indeed, it is a miracle.  He begins a couple of classes at the local community college this week in order to regain his short term recall skills.  He quickly outpaced the outpatient therapy and now has more subtle deficits that will simply take time to heal including the short term recall, initiation in starting things and elevated pulse with exercise that doesn’t calm down as quickly as it used to.  The doctor said, “school will be your therapy now and what used to take you an hour will take you three hours” (in school).

We’re all enjoying the close family time and of course the sheer joy and gratitude of his healing.

Tim is using visualizations and guided meditations, along with mantras – and we are also seeing results when I do healing sessions with him. One session was especially deep and strong, and I felt that all of your prayers of all helped to bring Guru’s grace so tangibly into our home at this time. It is a spiritually precious time, so I don’t want to dissipate the energy by talking about it too much while we are still in the middle of this.

Some symptoms are improving – he can walk a few steps now without crutches and we know this will continue.

Please especially send continued healing energy to the pelvic area – bladder/prostate, etc. There are signs that the energy is clearing, cleansing and healing… See him whole and well.

Healing with Divine Energy blog

Paramhansa Yogananda taught the importance of the power of thought, and also feeling the healing affirmation.  The video, below, brings out this point very dramatically.  The Chinese healers in the video first feel in themselves that the healing is already accomplished, and then affirm dynamically from that center of feeling. This is a very important point. Feel that it is so, and then declare it and affirm it so.

This deepened my understanding of this prayer of Paramhansa Yogananda:

Visualize your patient well, say the person’s name, and then affirm:

“Name,” Be thou whole, for God is in you! Be thou well, for God is in you!

“Name,” You ARE whole, for God is in you. You ARE well, for God is in you!

Dear Ones,

To start off the New Year, I am including Swami Kriyananda’s serious letter to us all. One need only glance at the headlines over the past year to realize his letter is very compassionate; it is not intended to frighten anyone, but rather to warn and protect. He mentions the need to buy land in the country and prepare in various ways.  He also says that Paramhansa Yogananda also warned about nuclear war; Swamiji says that, mercifully, whenever this happens, it is likely to be short.  

We must always, in good times or bad, spiritually be prepared to leave this plane whenever God calls us. Pray, love, meditate. And we must also be prepared, physically, mentally and spiritually, to live on in strength to help ourselves and others. So, below is a simple little shopping list to help you, and your family and neighbors, should there be any nuclear event. (And to protect you from the radiation that is still spewing from Fukushima, anyway.) If nothing else, read and laugh…But better yet – read, laugh and buy:

1)       20 Mule Team Borax

2)       Boron supplement, 3 mg

3)       Bentonite clay

4)       Kelp and other seaweeds

New Year’s Message By Swami Kriyananda, December 28, 2011

Dear Ones:

Here it is, 2012: the year people all over the world have been dreading, because the Mayan calendar ends on the last days of December in this year. Shall I add my two cents to the predictions? I have always felt it important, for the sake of those who look to me for guidance, and also as a close disciple of a great avatar, to keep abreast of important happenings in the world. One of the reasons I created Ananda was to offer people protection during hard times. And here the dreaded year is upon us!

Most of you know how urgently Yogananda stressed his prediction that the immediate future will be difficult. He said there will be a global depression — “much worse than that of the 1930s” — and that “the dollar will not be worth the paper it is printed on.” Obama’s urging Europe to go further into debt as a solution to its economic woes points directly to a policy of further inflation. The ensuing financial chaos will result in world wars. “Europe will be devastated,” Master said (though he didn’t say when); “Russia will be annihilated.” America will fare better than most, because it has basically good karma (and hasn’t had time to accumulate bad karma!). America and India would end up leading the world together toward a more dharmic (righteous) way of life. I was in the Hollywood Church one Sunday when Master, during his sermon, paused to shout, “You don’t know what a terrible cataclysm is coming!” I still remember his exact words.

He urged people to get out of the cities, to buy land, and to live in little communities in the country, growing their own food, and becoming self-dependent instead of depending on government to save them.

One evening, when he’d received one more absurdly constrictive ruling from city hall, he commented wryly (as people do), “There ought to be a revolution!” He paused then a moment, and commented more quietly, “There will be one.” That comment makes me think of the mass protests recently in Zuccotti Park and elsewhere. Those protests were peaceful, but it would not take much more outrage on people’s part to make them violent, and then organized. Again, good reason to get out of the cities.

And a final reason: He said atom bombs will fly. Where do you think it more likely for atom bombs to fall — on Mt. Shasta? or on Los Angeles?

He added, finally, that those who love God will be protected. I myself have been teaching now for over sixty years. And I have noted a definite increase in spirituality all over the world. Yes, materialism too has increased, but there are more people now who think seriously about life, and who want to live more for God. I don’t think I could have started Ananda back in the forties.

I think this year may see many problems at least beginning. I urge you to look for land out in the country near you. If you live in a city, try to gather those around you who share high ideals. The communities you start needn’t be Ananda communities, but I can attest to the difficulty, on a human plane, of getting people to work harmoniously together. It will be much easier to start a new community for which the pattern has been already established. You can then tell dissidents, “This is what we are, and how we do things. If you don’t like it, go elsewhere.” So even if people don’t want to establish Ananda communities, they can pattern what they do on what we’ve worked out painstakingly over many years. (The first Ananda community is now over forty years old.)

A final word: Don’t get involved in mass hysteria. It won’t give you clarity. Be somewhat apart from any mania that seizes mankind in the years to come. This may be a difficult year, especially financially. Store food in advance of any crisis. Have some gold or silver as protection against the time when your nation’s currency loses value. And above all, live more for God. He alone can be our bulwark against the hardest of times.

Kristy said on Saturday – just 2 weeks after Ben’s accident:

Today Ben seems to have come back more mentally.  We’re pinching ourselves with the speed of his recovery!!

Please keep him in your prayers. On Nov 5th he got a fractured skull, and some injury to the brain itself, and it has affected his short term memory.  He also has some trouble with walking and coordination.  See his brain filled with healing light, and especially his forehead filled with light.

He is expected to make a full recovery; let’s surround him in healing light to safeguard the process, and “Make it so.”

Please also keep his parents, Leon and Kristy, in your prayers.  They are so very grateful for everyone’s prayers for Ben.

Dear Friends and family,

Ben would appear to each of you as a fully functioning person with a little trouble with walking, coordination and short term memory.

My sister and brother in law drove him to Spaulding Rehabilitation hospital in Boston from Albany, NY, on Tuesday where he is expected to need a few weeks before moving on to out patient rehabilitation.  Leon and I met with his doctors Tuesday evening and they stated Ben has had a “remarkable recovery” thus far.  Ben stated to the doctor he thought he was about 95% of his normal self but because people tell him he has little short term memory perhaps not quite that high.  This was only 10 days after his accident.

There is some question about possible seizures, and other limitations in the future. However, with all of your prayers and Divine grace he is on track for a full recovery.

We are all ever grateful for your loving prayers and support.  God bless each of you, Kristy

Here was the Wednesday update – the first time he woke up for more than just a minute:“Ben was awake and talking for about 15 minutes for the first time since his accident.  He was coherent and lucid and smiling with friends!  Then when asked if his head hurt he said yes and went back to sleep.”

So he is definitely making progress!

(Note – For those of you who don’t get my regular newsletter : On Saturday, Nov. 5, Benjamin, a college student, was hit by a car that pulled out in front of him while he was riding his bicycle. Ben has been in ICU since then with a fractured skull and other injuries.  The doctors say he is very lucky…)

Last month I wrote about the Peace and Harmony Prayer, and I’ve heard back that people are feeling blessed from the practice.  Beautiful! And we received this lovely note of gratitude: Thank you for the healing prayers on my behalf as I seek employment for work in a new field – I feel uplifted, see new possibilities, and think of ways to help others as an instrument of the Divine. Thanksgiving comes later this month. Remember, the Pilgrims were giving thanks that they had survived that extremely difficult first year.  Likewise, many people around the world are feeling economic hardship and other difficulties. It is easy for people to fall into fear, but if we hold on to higher thoughts and vibrations, it serves all.  Stay grateful for the blessings in your life; nurture them that they may grow, and thus bless others through your generous spirit.

Remain grateful and generous, always. God is ever with you.

The meaning of “neighbor“
Always avoid the evil of selfishness. Any person who lives selfishly for himself does not really live at all, for he chokes the expansion of his life. But when a person extends his sympathy from his family, to his neighbors, and to the world, he expands and connects his little life to its source in the eternal life of God…

Universal sympathy and love
Disease, universal depression, war—all these are making nations realize more and more that national security, prosperity, and health are dependent upon international development and world unity. We are a part of the world family and cannot exist without it….Real world unity and permanent prosperity, peace, and joy require that we feel that we are all children of the One Father, God….You can only develop this kind of universal sympathy and love through meditation and spiritual effort. Actual steps must be taken to live the brotherhood preached by Christ and the masters of all religions, and to learn to “love thy neighbor as thyself.”

Update on our healing prayer group in Kenya

                Last year I told you about Rev. Wangai in Kitale, Kenya. He has been a member of the Ananda Healing Prayer Ministry for many years now.  He helps several small, poor congregations, and also cares for a group of AIDS widows and their children. In addition, since some of the AIDS mothers have died, Rev. Wangai and his wife have decided to take in 10 of the orphans into their own home, to give them better care.

Many people from the Ananda Healing Prayer Ministry donated money to help Rev. Wangai in this special work. Over the course of many months, we sent money for 8 treadle sewing machines, cloth, goats and chickens.  They have done very well getting these projects going.   We also sent him a copy of  The Second Coming of Christ, by Paramhansa Yogananda. He reads from it each day, and then teaches it to his congregation and the group of widows who work on the sewing project.

One woman, Lucy, wrote to me, “There are teachings you have taught Rev Wangai, and he has been teaching us .Everyday we pray before we start work, at lunch time one hour and evening we pray when we are closing down our work. It has helped we as women in our project so much….God bless you…”

I have also sent to him instructions on meditation, affirmations, and several prayers to teach the congregation including “I was made for Thee” by Paramhansa Yogananda. They are very grateful for both the material and spiritual help. They really feel it. He is also sharing some of these teachings with other ministers in the surrounding area.

Food Distribution in the outlying drought and famine areas

Dear  Reverend  Mary,

Receive much greetings, I have sent you a pictures of Sunday service. In the picture they is my son, do you remember when I use to tell you to pray for him to get saved. Now he prays for convicts in correction facilities in Kenya. Your prayers helped him, he taught the children on Sunday. One orphan child got ill at night, we had to rush her to hospital at night. These children being together will make it easier for us to take care of them. By time God will help us be able to buy a farm and build a house for this big family of mine.
